to gain recognition at the Illinois State Respiratory Care Conference and
get in free! Two top winners will receive a scholarship to cover the cost

The ISRC invites you to become a part of the excitement at the 2008 ISRC
40th Annual Conference at Drury Lane Conference Center, Oakbrook, Illinois
on May 28th-30th, 2008 by submitting a poster presentation on any area of
respiratory care for the 2nd annual 2008 ISRC Student Betty Pendgraft Memorial
OPEN FORUM.
The OPEN FORUM POSTER PRESENTATION is your opportunity to:

Be a representative of your school of respiratory therapy here in Illinois.

Gain recognition for your work from leading respiratory therapists, physicians,
and other health care professionals in attendance at the meeting.

Receive valuable feedback on your abstract given by conference attendees
and judges who view your presentation.
-
Help the ISRC build a solid scientific basis for the profession of respiratory
care. Every abstract that is presented adds another important piece of knowledge
to our profession.
Your program director or clinical director can submit your name and poster
title online! Submit your abstract through your program director and the
program director will contact Kelly Crawford-Jones, MS, RRT for questions
please contact kcrawfordjones@icc.edu.
Deadline is May 15th, 2008.
Poster Specifications
OPEN FORUM posters may include:

A study; yours or someone you respect
-
An evaluation of a method, device, or protocol
-
A case study
-
A literature review of a respiratory specific disease
-
An interesting topic that you pick
Topic ideas may include aspects of adult acute care, continuing
care/rehabilitation, perinatology/pediatrics, cardiopulmonary technology,
or health care delivery
Essential Content Elements:
Study posters must include:
-
A background and a statement of a problem in our clinical knowledge, a research
question, or hypothesis that addresses this problem, and a rationale supporting
the hypothesis or question.

Method: description of research subjects studied, the research design and
conduct in sufficient detail to permit judgment of validity. Must include
a statement of the statistical tests used to analyze any data.

Results: statement of research findings with quantitative data and statistical
analysis.

Conclusions: interpretation of the results.

Method, device, or protocol evaluation posters must include:
-
Background: identification of the method, device, or protocol and its intended
function.
-
Method: description of the evaluation in sufficient detail to permit judgment
of its objectivity and validity.
-
Results: findings of the evaluation.
-
Conclusions: interpretation of the evaluation and experience. Cost comparisons
should be included where possible and appropriate.

Case report posters must report a case that is uncommon or of exceptional
educational value, and must include:

Introduction: relevant basic information important to understanding the case.

Case Summary: patient data and response, details of interventions.

Discussion: content should reflect results of literature review. The author(s)
should have been actively involved in the case, and a case-managing physician
must be a co-author or must approve the report.

Literature search posters must report information that is new, uncommon or
of exceptional educational value and must include:

Introduction: relevant basic information important to understanding the case.

Summary: disease diagnosis, pathophysiology, and details of treatment.

Discussion: content should reflect results of literature review.

Poster Submission Guidelines
-
Posters must be written and presented in English.
-
The first line of the poster title page should be the title in all capital
letters; the title should explain content and contain no abbreviations.
-
Follow the title with the name of the student, college, and location; underline
the presenter's name.
-
Standard abbreviations may be employed in the text of the abstract without
explanation; new or infrequently used abbreviations should be spelled out
on first use and followed by the abbreviation in parentheses.
-
Use generic names only for drugs; proprietary names may not be used.
-
Total word count for the presentation may not exceed 325 words. This does
not include the title or authors.
-
All components of the poster must be able to fit on a standard three-fold
presentation poster board.
-
A maximum of two posters from each Illinois NBRC accredited respiratory therapy
school allowed.
-
Each poster must be approved by the school's program director or director
of clinical education.
-
The mandatory submission deadline is May 1.
Poster Presentation Guidelines

Commercial logos are prohibited from appearing on the poster.
-
Authors are expected to arrive on time for their presentation and stand near
their poster during the open forum judging on Thursday, May 29th from
11:30-12:00.

Admission to the conference will be free to any student who is picked for
presentation.
