Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation – Respiratory Care
Required Continuing Education (CE) Trainings
Per the Illinois Administrative Code, respiratory care professionals must complete the following training requirements as part of license renewal. These apply to all DPR-licensed professions unless otherwise noted:
- 24 Continuing Education (CE) Credits
▸ Must be earned during each 2-year renewal cycle.
▸ Credits must be from approved providers and meet DPR standards. - Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
▸ 1 hour every renewal cycle
▸ Courses used to meet an employer’s requirement are acceptable. - Implicit Bias Awareness Training
▸ 1 hour every renewal cycle
▸ Courses must be from approved providers. - Cultural Competency Training
▸ 1 hour every 6 years
▸ Courses must be from approved providers. - Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias Training
▸ 1 hour every 6 years
▸ Required only for licensees working with patients age 26 and older.
▸ Courses must be from approved providers.

Reminder: The Illinois Administrative Code contains the administrative rules governing all DPR-licensed professions and outlines the statutorily mandated CE requirements. Be sure to review these requirements in detail at the link above.
