Eligibility & Expectations

All Executive Roles must meet the following criteria:

AARC Membership
Active or retired member in good standing.
Licensure
Licensed by the IDFPR.
Engagement
Currently serving on an ISRC/AARC committee or active as a general member.
Commitment
Willing to commit time, collaboration, and professional integrity.
Term Length
Most roles serve 2-year terms unless otherwise noted.

The Presidential Path

A 4-Year Leadership Journey — President-Elect → President → Immediate Past President

This single, intentional pathway is designed for continuity and mentorship. Rather than one intense term, the presidency flows across four years, allowing leaders to grow into the role before supporting the next generation.

Year 1
President-Elect
1 Year
Orientation, visioning, and strategic preparation.

Years 2–3
President
2 Years
Chief Executive Officer; setting agendas and leading the Board.

Year 4
Immediate Past President
1 Year
Mentorship, historical perspective, and advisor to the Board.

Best for: Members who enjoy strategic thinking, relationship-building, and organizational growth.

Executive Officers

Vice President

2-Year Term

The “connective tissue” of the ISRC, focusing on communication and coordination between committees and the Board.

Key Duties: Acts as a liaison between committees, surfaces emerging issues, and supports the President on special initiatives.
Reporting Council: Government Affairs Council.
Best for: Relationship-builders and “big-picture” thinkers.

Secretary

2-Year Term

The organizational backbone, ensuring transparency and professionalism through meticulous record-keeping.

Key Duties: Documenting Board meetings, maintaining official records, and managing Standing Rules.
Reporting Council: Strategic Communications Council.
Best for: Detail-oriented members who value clarity and structure.

Treasurer

2-Year Term

The financial steward, focusing on high-level oversight and fiscal health.

Key Duties: Overseeing Society funds, budget alignment, and financial transparency (role is bonded at Society expense).
Reporting Council: Fiscal Responsibilities Council.
Best for: Members comfortable with budgets and long-term accountability.

Specialized Leadership Roles

Delegate

4-Year Term

Represent Illinois at the national AARC House of Delegates — the official voice of Illinois RTs in national policy discussions.

Best for: Advocacy-minded members passionate about national professional standards.

Medical Advisor

Ongoing

Physician leaders who provide clinical insight and strategic guidance to ISRC leadership.

Best for: Physicians committed to advancing respiratory care through interdisciplinary partnership.

Chapter Leaders

2-Year Terms

Leading one of six regional chapters (Chair and Representative roles).

Best for: Members who want to make a local impact and build community engagement close to home.

Important Governance Notes

  • Exclusivity: No individual may hold more than one Society office at a time.
  • Term Limits: There is no limit to consecutive terms for Board members (excluding the Presidential sequence).
  • Vacancies: Filled by the Board according to ISRC Bylaws to ensure stability.
