The handbook is currently undergoing extensive revisions to reflect 2025 practices, updated bylaws, and evolving committee structures—so consider it a living document. Vision (Proposed)

To inspire a thriving community of respiratory therapists who elevate lung health, improve quality of life, and lead innovations in care across Illinois. The ISRC envisions a future where respiratory therapists are recognized as essential partners in patient wellness and healthcare transformation.

Purpose (Proposed)

The purposes of the Illinois Society for Respiratory Care are to:
a. Encourage, develop, and provide educational programs for individuals interested in the field of respiratory care and diagnostics.
b. Advance the science, technology, ethics, and art of respiratory care through institutes, meetings, lectures, publications, and other professional resources.
c. Facilitate cooperation and understanding among respiratory therapy personnel and members of the medical, allied health, hospital, and healthcare industries, as well as government and community organizations.
d. Promote public education in pulmonary health, disease prevention, and respiratory wellness throughout Illinois.

Fiscal operations ensure the responsible management of the Society’s financial resources. This includes oversight of income, expenditures, reimbursements, and reporting in accordance with nonprofit best practices. The Budget & Audit Chair and Treasurer work together to safeguard assets, maintain compliance, and promote long-term financial sustainability.
